Trinidad Chambliss set the college football world ablaze Thursday night as the former Ferris State football standout led No. 6 Ole Miss to a 39-34 upset win over No. 3 Georgia in the quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoffs.
The senior quarterback for the Rebels finished 30-for-46 passing for 362 yards and two touchdowns, including an incredible second-half performance that featured 13 straight completions from the former Forest Hills Northern High School standout
Chambliss went 13-for-16 passing for 202 yards and one touchdown in the second half as he helped Ole Miss erase a 21-12 halftime deficit and stun the Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl, which was held in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Ole Miss (13-1) advances to face Miami (12-2) in the CFP semifinals on Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The Hurricanes knocked off defending national champion Ohio State 24-14 on Wednesday night in the Cotton Bowl.
Ole Miss Head coach Pete Golding was even doused in a Gatorade bath. However, officials again demanded the final second be played, and stadium staff even began to push the winner's stage onto the field, before having to push it back to clear space for the final play.
Georgia ran one more play in which they executed numerous laterals before the play fizzled after dozens of seconds, before Ole Miss could finally celebrate their CFP victory.
The win sent Ole Miss (13-1, CFP No. 6 seed) on to a semifinal against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl next Thursday.
