Outage reports skyrocketed into the afternoon, impacting New York City, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Brooklyn, Dallas, Philadelphia, Miami and Ashburn, as well as smaller towns and cities in between, according to Downdetector.
But the reports continued, and more than 1.5 million people said they were without service, well into the evening.
"Verizon's team is on the ground actively working to fix today's service issue that is impacting some customers. We know this is a huge inconvenience, and our top priority is to get you back online and connected as fast as possible. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue," the company said in a post at 4:12 pm. E.T.
Around five hours later, service was still out, and the company vowed to "work through the night" to fix it if needed. Verizon also said it would provide account credits to those affected.
After 10 p.m. E.T., the company said the outage had been resolved, and anyone still experiencing issues should try to restart their device.
